As we are nearing the end of the semester, our project is coming to a close. Overall, I am overwhelmed with the positive feedback and support we've gotten from the teachers and elementary students in the community. When we created this project, we honestly were a little nervous with how the elementary students would take it. We thought we'd have to fix our project and try to figure out how to make it better. However, we didn't have to change one thing about our project. We've loved getting to connect with the students of the community and hopefully inspire them to pursue what they love. Our goal of this project was to spread awareness about music in the community and expose kids to what their endless opportunities are. I firmly believe that we were able to accomplish that. I am so grateful for the support of teachers and especially Mr. Large for helping us with this project!

Within the past month we've had about twelve more presentations scheduled. We've gotten a lot of positive feedback and loved going to NPE. A couple weeks ago we sent out our final call to all second through fourth grade teachers at all three schools to make sure anyone else who was interested had the opportunity. Our project has continued to be very successful, and we love getting to bond with younger members of our community over something we are passionate about! We've loved how curious the kids are to learn about music and all of their questions.
We officially finished our SCE presentations! We had so many that it took about a month and a half to complete them all. We have now moved on to NPE. We resent out our interest form to NPE teachers, and have gotten a lot of feedback so far. I have loved getting to meet new kids and then them recognizing me at different choir events. This project has allowed us to connect with some of the kids in our community and build a relationship with the younger community members. Also, we have continuously gotten great feedback from the teachers. Mrs. Jackson even gave us treat bags! We are so excited to continue this project.
We are almost done with our SCE presentations! Since the last blog post, we've been to Mrs. Ragsdale's room on 9/27 and Ms. Martin's room on 9/28. In the next couple of days Lillie and I are planning on sending out an interest form to NPE teachers. All of our SCE presentations have gone very well. All of the teachers have been very kind and helpful. The kids are really enjoying it as well, especially playing Just Dance at the end. The basic flow of our presentations is we've started by introducing ourselves and our project, then we ask the kids what kind of music they like as sort of an ice breaker. We then transition into telling them how music is actually good for them. Lillie and I then tell our stories and how we got involved in music. After that we talk about the importance and benefits of getting involved in groups and activities at their age and throughout high school. After that we introduce them to the opportunities they have in the community to get involved in music now and in the future. We then answer any questions the kids have and play Just Dance! This presentation flow has been going very well and we haven't had to adjust it at all. Everything is going very smoothy and we couldn't be more excited to head into the next phase of our project!
At this point we've had our first three presentations, and they've gone super well! We are starting with SCE and eventually moving to the other elementary schools. Our first one was on 9/14 in Mrs. Knoop's room, and it couldn't have been a better way to start off our project. The kids were very into our presentation and had a TON of questions (some music related, some not). We also had presentations in Mrs. Adams's room on 9/16, and Mrs. Benson's room on 9/23. Before our presentations we emailed the teachers to make sure we could connect to their Apple TV. We arrived at each classroom around five minutes early to make sure we would have enough time. All of these presentations went very well and we are so excited about the future of our project. Also, some of the kids were really excited about our presentations and decided to come to the Show Choir Kids Camp this past Saturday!
As I already mentioned, our project is about showing kids opportunities that they have in music around the community. On Pitch Day, my partner was sick, therefore I had to give the presentation by myself. It was a little nerve-racking just because I was all by myself without my partner. However, the feedback wasn’t bad. I basically just talked about our project and the planes that we have for it. We were hoping for this to be a year-long project and focusing on different things each semester. Our goal for the first semester is to give presentations in elementary school teachers' classrooms about music and the opportunities that kids have in music. This is the part of the project or we just want to raise awareness and share all of the music. We created a Google Form and emailed it to the second, third, and fourth grade teachers at Sugar Creek Elementary asking if they would want us to give one of our presentations in their classroom. So far, more than half of the teachers we sent it to were interested and we have around seven presentations scheduled within the next month! Our goal for second semester is to get involved in the local music programs around the community and serve them and help them wherever they need help. I have already talked to Mrs. McDaniel, the Sugar Creek Elementary music teacher. She said she’s very willing to allow us to help her out in her classroom and in her visions choir. We are also hoping to make some sort of fundraiser for the music programs in the community in the second semester. Some of our ideas were a karaoke night, fundraiser concert, and T-shirts. Overall, things are starting out smoothly and we are very excited!
Our project is about inspiring kids and people younger than us to get involved in opportunities and music around the community. Lillie and I are both in Show Choir, and have been impacted by the musical organizations in the community. Music is something that we both love and are passionate about, therefore we wanted to do a project about it. it was important for us to do this project because the music programs, especially in the middle school and high school, or having less and less people join every year. This is an issue that is really concerning to us because of how important music is to us. Therefore, we wanted to try and do what we could to raise awareness for music opportunities. We just want for kids to have the chance to be involved, whether it be sports, music, after school clubs, or a mix of all three. Studies have shown that people involved in extracurriculars tend to be more successful in school. Through this project, we are hoping to accomplish the goal of spreading our love with music and letting kids know their opportunities in music.
